Thank you to the more than 150 people who
participated in this poll.
Question: Would
you like to participate in an international exchange
program during business school?

We were
encouraged that so many of our poll takers were either
definitely planning to participate in an international
MBA exchange program or were seriously considering it.
We believe this can be a quite beneficial experience
for students and we encourage all of you to pursue
this if you get the chance.
There
are two things we would like to share with you from
our own experiences as former top 10 MBA students.
First
of all, if you attend a top-tier U.S. business school,
and in particular a top 10 MBA program, you will have
the best opportunities to study abroad at some extremely
prestigious international business schools. These schools
enroll a reciprocal number of international exchange
students equal to the number of students from their
own schools who wish to study abroad at those institutions.
The results are predictable and the strong demand from
international business school students to study for
a semester at a top U.S. school means that students
at the top U.S. schools can quite literally write their
own ticket to study abroad.
The
second thing we would like to share with you is unfortunately
not as optimistic. Studying abroad for a semester can
derail your job search. This is the critical reason
that the number of MBA students who actually study abroad
is so much smaller than the results our poll indicate.
If you are able to secure a summer internship or full-time
offer in the fall, then studying in Europe, Asia, or
Australia the following spring is certainly a terrific
idea.
Our
MBA admissions consulting staff includes a MIT (Sloan)
MBA who spent a semester studying at Fudan University
in Shanghai. He concurs with the many other business
school students who are grateful for their once-in-a-lifetime
opportunities to study abroad and immerse themselves
in foreign cultures.
We update
our poll periodically and we will continue to archive
the results of the previous polls so you can see how
other business school applicants voted on those topics
as well.
Do you have
an idea for a poll topic or any comments on our analysis?

with your thoughts.
