Thank you to the over 450
people who participated in this unscientific poll
conducted in the last half of 2009 and beginning of 2010. Here
are the results.
Question: Which of the following is most important to you in selecting a b-school?

While we
readily acknowledge that this poll is not scientific, we do believe it
is also
pretty reflective of the MBA applicant community at
large as we fully expected alumni networking and campus
recruiting to be the two most important business school
selection criteria. Our only "commentary" on the poll
results is that the MBA's value peaks upon graduation which would seem to make the
campus recruiting more important to future career success than the alumni network – not
that there is anything wrong with having a strong alumni network for support in the short term or even the long term.
We received a
few
emails relating to this poll. We love hearing feedback
and sharing it here with others, so please keep them
coming! If you give us a name (or at least initial) and
location, we will likely publish your quotes.
"I chose
alumni networking but it was a tough call over campus
recruiting. This certainly doesn't mean I don't care
about my match with the student body. It's just not the
most important factor." – P, Illinois
"The economy
stinks right now. I was going to wait another year to
apply, but I'll give it a try this year and hope for the
best. Hopefully, I'll get in and graduate in time to
catch the entire upswing." – L, Texas
"I'm
surprised you even provided a faculty option. If that's
what I cared about, I would be doing a Ph.D. instead of
an MBA." – H, China
We update
our poll periodically and we will continue to archive
the results of the previous polls so you can see how
other business school applicants voted on those topics
as well.
