SDA Bocconi School of Management
Admissions Interview

If a prospective student is interested in a more global career and looking for career opportunities outside of Milan, what sort of alumni support can they expect to receive outside of Europe? What specific forums or events are held to connect the various alumni classes?

To understand this, some employment data is necessary to give some context. 65% of the 2008 graduates are now working in Italy, while the other 35% are working in thirteen countries outside Italy, on all continents. 25% of non-Italian graduates, both EU and non-EU citizens, have found a rewarding professional opportunity in Italy. 44% of extra-EU students found a job in Europe (including Italy). As other top international business schools, SDA Bocconi Alumni are spread all over the world and MBA students can access them through the School database once they are members of the Alumni Association (Amsda). We have seen a steady increase of our alumni as recruiters of our MBA graduates.

In terms of corporate recruiters, what is the percentage of American vs. foreign companies that attend the on campus recruiting events?

International recruiters (non-Italian) for 2007-2008 MBA edition were over 70% of the total and were mainly European.

How important is it for students to attend pre-courses before the MBA program begins? Do you find it that students can find it easier to succeed if they complete these courses?

About 70% of the students normally attend the pre-courses. Even though it cannot be said that the attendance of the pre-courses assure a better performance during the program, it certainly helps the MBA participants to enter the program gradually and to get the basics in certain disciplines. It is also helpful for socialization with other new students before the official program begins.

Describe how the financial aid process works and what admitted students can expect in terms of scholarships, assistantships, and loan guarantees.

Every year a number of scholarships and tuition waivers are offered to MBA applicants by the School and /or companies. In the 2009/10 MBA edition, more than 20 tuition waivers and scholarships, covering from 70% to 100% of the tuition fee, are available to applicants coming from different geographical areas (see specific list on our website) or from different academic backgrounds.

The scholarships are awarded on the basis of the results of the selection process and other criteria, specified each year by the School and sponsoring companies.

In last MBA edition 38% of MBA students received financial aid (tuition waivers, scholarships).

Besides this, the School makes low-interest loans available to admitted students, thanks to agreements we have with banks in Milan.

Is there anything else you would like to share regarding the MBA program at SDA Bocconi?

Simply put, we look forward to continued interest from American candidates in our MBA program. We believe that we have a unique offering for candidates who envision a strong global career for themselves and who are looking to combine a top tier academic and professional program with the benefits that come from experiencing a new culture and a new language. We work very hard with our candidates to holistically answer their questions and truly determine if we are a good fit for the candidate and if the candidate is a good fit for SDA Bocconi. We hope candidates will not hesitate to make contact with us at any time.
