Many European MBA programs are reporting a large influx of
American applications. One example is
SDA Bocconi School of Management in Milan.
SDA Bocconi School of Management has had great success in attracting talented
candidates from all around the world to its MBA program.
Here is a recent interview with Tyler Henderson from the Recruiting and Admissions
Service, Masters Division at Bocconi.
What differentiates SDA Bocconi from other top-tier International European MBA programs?
Henderson: Our location in the center of Milan is key. Milan is a European capital of
finance, design, fashion, food and wine. As we say, "Milan is our campus," which we take to
mean that student's in the MBA must be serious about the program but also must find the time to know
and enjoy life in the city. With our specific location in central Milan, extra-curricular activities
are constantly taking students to various professional, networking and social events around the city.
In addition, our class size of just over 100 students allows us to be heavily student-centered with
the goal of focusing on each candidate's personal and professional development, which is manageable given
the number of students enrolled in the program.
Your admissions process is
structured on a rolling basis, what sort of numbers have you seen this season thus far? Are there any plans to
actually increase or decrease the size of the class? What class size are you striving for this year?
The application process is now still in progress. So far we have received the same number of
applications for the MBA program as last year. Our class size therefore will not change.
Many European programs have announced a large increase of American applicants applying to
their MBA programs, has SDA Bocconi witnessed such an increase?
The number of American applicants has increased at SDA Bocconi this year.
Can you walk us through the application review process? Have there been any changes enacted for
this season regarding how an application is processed and how the final decisions are made?
The selection process is based on an overall analysis of various factors, all equally important,
including the academic and professional background of the candidate, GMAT and TOEFL tests, personal
skills and talents and the motivation towards our MBA program. Our selection process is quite rigorous
and it is designed to provide the best match between the School’s requirements and the candidate's
aspirations and career goals.
We strongly believe in the importance of a highly selected class,
therefore this year we did not change our selection standards, we only tried to speed up the entire
process in order to give a decision to our applicants earlier than in the past.
