Senior College Consultant, Sheri Mural, was quoted in a recent article in
regarding the upcoming Bravo reality TV show, NYC Prep, which shows privileged New York high school students in sometimes
compromising situations. According to the article, students are shown drinking underage, speaking about personal drug use, and
possessing fake ID's.
Sheri Mural was called on by the author of the article to provide her
expertise in regards to how appearing on such a show would affect a student's chances of
admission into a competitive university.
One of parents of a participant on the show is quoted regarding admissions
prospects for her daughter stating, "I don't worry. I thought it would be a great
learning experience for her ... She could write about it for a college essay."
Admissions Consultant, Sheri Mural, disagreed, stating, "It could be
detrimental and backfire. Top schools have many well-qualified candidates." As the
former Associate Director of Admission for Columbia University's Barnard College Sheri has
made reject/accept/waitlist decisions on hundreds of applications.
