Professors Fight to Protect Their Political Ambitions

The Chronicle of Higher Education has a great article about professors at Central Michigan University who are fighting for their right to run for political office. Currently the school has a policy that requires faculty and staff to seek permission from their superior before accepting any political nominations or otherwise running for office. The university states the policy is to ensure that the new political duties would not interfere with the employees' work responsibilities.

Payscale.com has announced that petroleum engineering graduates of Harvey Mudd have the biggest average mid-career salaries at $126,000. The other schools whose graduates have the highest mid-career salaries include Dartmouth and Princeton ($123,000), Harvard ($121,000) and Cal Tech ($120,000).

Gap years are becoming increasingly popular in the United States according to admissions offices at schools such as Middlebury and MIT. It is being used more as a tool to help graduating high school seniors recharge before undertaking four more rigorous years of education and to help them increase their level of self awareness.
